A PRESIDENTIAL ASK
The Democratic Women’s Club of Marco has accomplished a lot thanks to the enthusiastic engagement of our growing membership. From registering voters, to helping turnout 91 percent of Collier County democratic voters in 2020, we have responded to the tyrannical tactics of the Republican Party as they try to destroy democracy.
Our state is a national embarrassment thanks to the disregard shown by Governor DeSantis and Senators Rubio and Scott. The Republican’s 20 years of rule has not served Floridians. They are suppressing the vote, dismantling public education, and are attempting to deprive women the right to privacy and healthcare. Meanwhile, gun violence is on the rise and our environment is being attacked by the highest bidder. We must work even harder this coming year to support our Democratic candidates in the mid-term elections—to save our state and nation from not only DeSantis and Rubio but from the Republican Party itself.
To do this, we must take steps to keep our DWCMarco club vital. In 2018 I took on the role of President knowing I would be fully supported by my executive officers. We have worked hard on behalf of our club but now are term limited.
We are looking for new leadership with new ideas to keep our club energized. That’s why I am asking our members to consider taking on a leadership role.
Karen, Jane and I remain committed to DWCMarco and will work alongside the new executive officers offering support and assistance as needed. We appreciate the ongoing commitment of our Treasurer Ellen, Recording Secretary Linda, Corresponding Secretary Ruth, and Volunteer Coordinator Lisa who will remain in their respective positions.
According to our bylaws we will hold elections in November to determine new executive officers. Each of these roles requires participation in our general monthly meetings and subsequent executive board meetings. Although ad hoc meetings do occur, duties are not onerous and are collaborative.
